Sucheta was a meritorious student in her student life. He completed his higher education from Indraprastha College, New Delhi. After that he did higher studies from St Stephen’s College. She then became a lecturer in constitutional history at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

When she was 28 years old, she met socialist leader Acharya J.B. Kripalani with whom she fell in love. Later both of them got married. JB Kripalani was 20 years older than him. Mahatma Gandhi, along with the family, initially opposed their marriage.

Acharya Kripalani was a staunch Gandhian. He himself introduced Sucheta to Gandhiji and encouraged her to join the freedom struggle. She joined the Indian National Congress. During the Quit India Movement of 1942, she came forward along with Aruna Asaf Ali and other women leaders. She became the first president of the Mahila Morcha of the Congress party.

Gandhiji was greatly impressed by the political dedication of Sucheta. Seeing her dedication, Gandhi helped her to be appointed as the organizing secretary of the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust in 1946. In the same year, fierce communal riots broke out in Noakhali (now Bangladesh). Along with Gandhiji and Acharya Kripalani, he visited the riot-affected areas. He served the victims of the massacre there.

The year 1946 brought a great achievement in his life. At the end of the year she was elected a member of the Constituent Assembly. Seeing his talent, he got a place in the sub-committee that prepared the Charter of the Constitution of India.

In 1949 Sucheta Kriplani was elected as the representative of the United Nations General Assembly. After a few years, Acharya Kripalani had a rift with Pandit Nehru over some issue. He said goodbye to the Congress party and formed a new political party. The name of the party was Krishak Mazdoor Praja Party. Sucheta briefly joined this party and then went back to the Indian National Congress.

In 1952, she was elected from the New Delhi parliamentary constituency in the first general election held in the country on the ticket of Krishak Mazdoor Praja Party. He took over the charge of Minister of State for Small Industries. Five years later, she was once again elected to the Parliament from this parliamentary constituency. Sucheta Kripalani contested the elections to the Uttar Pradesh state assembly in 1962. She got elected from Kanpur Assembly Constituency. She became a cabinet minister in the UP government. He held the Ministry of Labour, Community Development and Industry.

The next year, there was a difference of opinion between Kamalapati Tripathi and CB Gupta in the Congress party. Since Gupta lost the election and did not want Kamalapati Tripathi to become the Chief Minister, he instigated Sucheta to stake claim for the post of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Finally, in the year 1963, she became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and got the unique position of becoming the first woman Chief Minister of the country. Taking over as the Chief Minister, he proved his mettle as an efficient administrator and an able organiser.

During his chief ministership, the state employees went on strike. This strike lasted for 62 days. The striking workers demanded that their wages be increased. But Kripalani did not budge. When the workers withdrew their strike and agreed to a compromise, they accepted their demands. She was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh till 1967. In the fourth general election in 1967, she contested from Gonda in Uttar Pradesh and was elected. In 1971, he decided to say goodbye to politics. He died of a heart attack on December 1, 1974.
